Timeshare Scam Stories

CHAPTER 4

Though I didn´t know it at the time, Mr. Barry Myatt (the Royal Holiday Club sales rep - hey, that was the name on the card he gave me - anyone remember him?) came up out of clear blue waters to bite me from behind. Well, now that I have given my real age away, this Cancun deal that I am serving up to you like catfish was all around the year 1996 - a while ago - but hey, don’t go tearing out your fur - there are others who will do that "fur" ye! 

So I am a bit older than the average joe but that allows me to share my experience and let YOU learn from MY mistakes - ok, again you’re making me get off the story again. Now, I really only have myself to blame, coz I am an educated mammal - maybe not from Harvard, Oxford or Yale, but I like to read. . . .and I knew that Mr. Myatt had begun to circle just as a vulture twirls in the sky around its dead or dying victims - I could read that far, but I didn’t get as far as reading the small print on the contracts that were flashed before just as I was asked if I would like a drink. Ok, as I have said, I AM over 18 and I WAS on holiday, and the 30 minute pep talk was almost finishing its second hour so I thought, well we are here, right by the beach - close enough to the water if I have to make a quick escape - so hey, what the heck. When I was asked if I wanted a drink (Remember folks, please stay clear of the SSSD syndrome - especially if you are young pups like I was way back then - it will only get you into trouble: SSSDS? = sun, sand, surf, DRINK, syndrome!). Well you can imagine . . . . !

I'm a seal pup on vacation ! SSSD  - after almost 4 hours of talks it was time to relax a bit - I mean we had already missed a whole day of afternoon sunshine!

So, a couple of margaritas later I was being told how I would no longer have to endure the cold northern winter darkness and the long drives down form the north - I was going to get cheap air travel  - courtesy of RHC - I was going to be able to stay in many different hotel chains around the world - in all the RCI listed vacation stops - for just a small additional fee .. . . . .blah, blah, blah.

You know, by now my head was spinning ´coz all of this "wonderful timeshare package" - the price of which had been reduced at least three times during our conversation!- could be had for the price of fishtails . .. . . only later did I discover it all to be a load of codswallop!
